"A chaperone tends to kill one's sense of adventure, Timothy," Avery pointed out casually, "Especially a complete nutter like my Aunt Vienna."

Avery gathered her books and put them in a neat pile on the table in front of her, completely disinterested in finishing her schoolwork. Her full attention was on Timothy now and that was the way she wanted it.

"So, enough about me and more about you. When do I get to hear about your latest conquest?"

Avery had always had a crush on the older Slytherin male, for as far back as her 3rd year, but the more they bonded, with their shared blood status and their easygoing personalities, she never was able to express anything more than friendship. She resigned herself to being the girl in the friends seat, and while it bugged her to hear about other girls, she ignored it for the friendship's sake.

Timothy considered what Avery was saying and then half-nodded because there were times when he had to go with his parents out of the country for Ministry matters and was left alone with a chaperon and it was incredibly annoying having someone watching your every move.

He turned to face her, grinning suspiciously. Timothy was a bit put off at how Avery changed the subject back to him when she explained so little about her summer. "My latest conquest," he repeated with an amused tone. "It was rather plain, honestly. I was bored out of my mind."

Avery made it a point to look surprised. She wasn't entirely sure she believed Timothy. Then again, she hadn't really known much about his affairs over the holidays. He was always one of her school time only kind of chums. But she had always had a fascination for the older boy. And whenever possible, she always turned the conversation away from herself and often asked him questions to learn about him.

"That's unfortunate," she mused with a smile, "I could have used a knight in shinning armor to rescue me from my boredom. The tall buildings and the shopping with an unpleasant relative is not my idea of fun. Not my scene."

Timothy sucked his teeth. "I was called away to tend to my duties, I deeply apologize," he responded in a low, dramatic tone, while holding a hand to his chest and bowing his head. He returned to his previous position with his arms laid across the top of the couch. "Surely the buildings weren't all too bad. They're quite fascinating view, are they not?" he urged, trying to get Avery to admit that her vacation wasn't as bad as she said.
