THE SENATE OF SORCERY

The Senate of Sorcery, or the SOS, is the Wizarding government in America. Similar to how the Ministry of Magic in England resembles the structure of its Muggle counterpart, so the SOS resembles the Muggle American government. Each have a President, Vice President and, of course, a Senate. Both are also located in Washington D.C., with the SOS occupying a magically hidden location. Unlike the Muggle government, though, the SOS has no House of Representatives, as the Senate itself performs all non-Presidential tasks. There are also a greater number of varying political parties that come and go as a majority, as opposed to the usual two with which many of the Muggles align themselves. Currently occupying the Presidential seat is Astrid Monhollon, with Vice President Pierce Ronan.

EDUCATION

Unless home-schooled, young witches and wizards attend elementary and middle schools located in their districts. During the students last year (8th grade) in middle school they will need to complete the RATs before they can be accepted into a wizarding high school. Upon completion of high school witches and wizards may proceed to higher education at university or can begin working.

EXAMS

RATs - Really Annoying Tests
8th Grade - Must be completed to be accepted to a Wizarding high school.

HWATs - Herculean Wizarding Apprehension Tests
12th Grade - Equivalent to the Muggle SATs and must be completed and passed before applying to Wizarding universities.

TWATs - Treacherous Wizarding Apprehension Tests
12th Grade - An addition to the HWATs and pertains to the students strength in certain subjects.
